METALLICA To Film 'Frantic' Video In Montreal
July 19, 2003METALLICA will film a video for the track "Frantic" in the suburbs of Montreal, Quebec early next week, according to Journal de Montreal.
The band, who are scheduled to perform at Parc Jean Drapeau Sunday night (July 20) as part of the Summer Sanitarium Tour, will spend a couple of extra days in the city to film the clip with director Wayne Isham (ROLLING STONES, N' SYNC, RICKY MARTIN, BRITNEY SPEARS). Assisting Isham during the shoot will be the Montreal-based video production company Radar Films.
The video, which will reportedly cost close to a million dollars to produce, tells the story of a 25-year-old man who loses control of his life and decides to put an end to his frustrations by intentionally triggering a multi-vehicle crash. Other scenes will feature the young man remembering his life of decadence, most of them shot in a Montreal-area apartment. Around 80 technicians will work on various aspects of production, with 90% of the team hailing from Quebec. All action sequences will be co-ordinated by master American stuntman Andy Armstrong, who has previously worked on the motion picture "Charlie's Angels". The members of METALLICA — James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo — are expected to take about 10 hours to film their performance scenes.
"Frantic" is METALLICA's second video off the group's latest CD, "St. Anger", which is No. 7 in its sixth week on The Billboard 200 and has sold 1.14 million copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.
METALLICA, who will be interviewed by the Montreal music channel MusiquePlus (web site) Sunday afternoon (July 20) at 4:30 p.m., are in the midst of their Summer Sanitarium Tour with DEFTONES, LINKIN PARK, LIMP BIZKIT and MUDVAYNE. The trek rolls into Columbus, Ohio today (July 19).
